at the Chair of Drive Technology - Prof. Dr.-Ing. Manuel Oehler.
The Chair of Drive Technology is part of the Institute for Product and Service Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Ruhr University Bochum.
Gears usually work out of sight, yet nothing moves without them: no car, no aircraft, no wind turbine. At the Chair of Drive Technology, the entire life of a gear can be traced, from a self-milled blank to controlled failure on the test rig, where up to eight megawatts circulate, a test field unique in Germany at this scale. The RUB news portal visited us in the lab.
From a single tooth mesh to a complete planetary gearbox, our courses teach the fundamentals of machine elements and drive technology, hands-on and right at the test field. In Bachelor's, Master's and project work, students contribute to current research and industry questions, and even manufacture gears themselves in our workshop.
